12pm: Effectively, the Civil War ended in April of 1865, when Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Ulysses S. Grant. Two months later, word finally reached the enslaved residents of Texas that they were free. The formerly enslaved would call their day of liberation "Juneteenth." Today is the 158th anniversary of that glorious event. To mark this historic day, please join tour guide Steve Trimm as he portrays U.S. Grant and reflects upon the evolution of his thoughts on the subject of slavery. Grant would ultimately become our first Civil Rights President. Learn more about Grant’s moral growth on the subject, lesser-known aspects of Grant's life, and his experiences during a time of great change.
