Grant Cottage has been my second home every summer since 2011. My love for the Civil War began during my sophomore at Siena College when I took a military history class that changed my life when we went to Gettysburg Battlefield together. As a college student and resident of East Greenbush, New York, I was introduced to the Grant Cottage in school-wide email from Siena and thought it was the perfect opportunity to expand my love for history over the summer! It was love at first sight when I saw the cottage and heard the story of Grant's life in 1885. As a result, I have volunteered every summer since 2011. I am now approaching my eighth summer volunteering and sharing the captivating life story of President Grant!

It was my time at the cottage that influenced my career choice. I am currently in my second year of history of my PhD program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. I plan to not only continue to share my love for history and Grant with the public, but with my future students as s professor!
