The birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant in Point Pleasant, Ohio not only serves as an introduction to the origins of one of America’s great figures but also to the region from which he came. In this virtual program, Greg Roberts, who helps manage the Birthplace as a historic site, explores the influences that dominated the geographic area of Southern Ohio where Grant was born, providing a glimpse into antebellum life on the borderline of slave and free states. Discover the extensive preservation journey of this small structure and what the site offers to modern-day visitors 200 years after Grant’s birth. The program is part of the ongoing In the Footsteps of Grant series featuring interviews with staff at U.S. Grant-related sites.

Presenter Greg Roberts is an Administrator for the Village of New Richmond, Ohio. A native of Clermont County, Greg has over 20 years of experience in international business with Corning and 3M. As a member and former president of Historic New Richmond, Inc., Greg helps oversee the management of the U.S. Grant Birthplace. He is a recognized authority on local abolitionist and Underground Railroad history as well as the life and times of Clermont and Brown County’s most famous son, Ulysses S. Grant.
